The Silent Patient

I was amazingly surprised by this book. I expected a basic murder mystery, or a psych thriller, but this was so much more! I wouldn't say I was hooked from the beginning, however I would say that I grew increasingly(and worryingly!) engrossed in the book. It was alright at first, maybe a little boring, but as I read further and further the story was unraveled before me and I could barely believe what I thought was happening. I thought I could predict the crazy plot twist, but I was horribly wrong. I could, and would, definitely read this book again. The dual perspectives was a nice touch, especially since the second POV is in the form of letters from a now psych patient. I did have some problems with the redundancy of some parts and how prolonged they seemed, but I think looking at it as a whole the book was worth it.
Recommendation
This is probably a YA book just because of some of the language used and the psychological depth that they go into, almost climbing into your own brain. It also might not be interesting to younger readers as it pales in comparison to fantasy, dystopian, and sci-fi books that they are accustomed to reading. It doesn't have romance, which is a little refreshing after all the YA books that do incorporate it. I really liked this book, and I think it's famous for a reason so do what you will with that information.
