Love & Gelato
3/5 ★
I tried continuously to like this book but I just can't do it. First off, it's not the cute romance book that everyone told me it was and that I needed after reading Girl in Pieces. There is barely any romance until the end and that too instead of making it cliché and cute like I expected the author decided to put an obstacle with 40 pages of the book left and rip out my heart. Everything about this book made me either want to puke, reread an entire chapter, or stare blankly at the wall wondering why I decided to read this in the first place. I am not trying to hate but I convinced myself the book would get better and it never did. The style of writing reminds me of someone texting because it's so informal and uses vocabulary that elementary school kids would most likely understand. Because of this my brain wasn't stimulated at all while reading this and I was so uninterested I had to push myself to finish the book. The end of the book is pretty good but doesn't make up for the rest of the book. I am just disappointed because I was really hoping to enjoy this book and heard nothing but good reviews. Personally, though, I found more situations in which I was not too fond of the book than I loved it. I would not read the book again, and maybe even regret reading it in the first place. I gave it 3 stars because I just don't think many books deserve below that unless I HATE them.
Recommendation
I wouldn't recommend reading it because it seems like there wasn't a plan for the book; the plot jumps around at times and the theme/purpose the book is going for is unclear. The world-building is average and the characters aren't even interesting or focused on. This is one of my least favourite books so I don't want you to go through this, however, many people have found this enjoyable so take your pick.
