Kane Chronicles Series

I treasured this book. I was always a sucker for Rick Riordan's witty writing, especially when crossed with mythology. Seeing as the main characters were siblings, who lived in different continents, it was a leap of faith, to say the least. But I wasn't disappointed. The plot was interesting with the constant addition of new characters who knew infinitely more than Carter and Sadie. Mostly, the banter of nerdy Carter and sassy Sadie paired with the overall humor of the book kept me reading. I think the unique 'style' of writing was hilarious and contributed to the overall plot of the story. As in, the book is a recorded audio by Carter and Sadie after their adventures. There is nothing bad about this book, but I only gave it 4 stars because at times the hilarity and style of writing were predictable from Riordan's other series.

Recommendation

Percy Jackson fans would love this and even mythology lovers would have some fun with this book. It introduces and informs you about so much Egyptian mythology without boring you. I will say, it's audience is a bit younger than me, but nonetheless I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Particularly the extra scene, where we get a crossover from Percy Jackson characters! Overall it was a great book, and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

The Red Pyramid

5/5★

This book undeniably transcended any expectations I had for it or the first book. Although most sequels and 4th books seem like fluff and purely transition books, Throne of Fire defied this ideology. Despite this being an entertaining book for children, it covers some heavier topics as well. It teaches the characters about the strength of will, sacrifice, intrepidity, and adaptability. It is truly inspiring that a bunch of kids learned so much from their adventures than we do in real life. But aside from the deep stuff, it is genuinely funny. In truth, this book got me started on annotating, and I am very thankful for that.

Recommendation

I wholeheartedly recommend this book, but I am 99% sure that anyone who read the first book will automatically read this. This series is a mixture of humor, deeper concepts, and Riordan's iconic writing. I love his books because of the childish touch they have, which brings you back to when you were young and didn't have a care in the world. In summary, you should read this book because it is adventurous and wildly captivating.

The Throne of Fire

4.5/5★

I loved this book, but if I am being honest I gave that extra 1/2 of a star for the mini story at the end with Carter, Sadie, Percy and Annabeth. I just love crossovers, don't you? Getting back to the point, the plot was excellent as always and finally, the love stories went somewhere! I feel like all the relationships strengthened this time around, with Bes as a guide and Zia getting closer to Carter. A great deal of times, I hate the way a book or series ends because the author changed their tone of writing, or tried to make it a big splash before they leave the stage. But with this book, I felt it had the same tone as when I picked the first book up. I'll admit: it took me a while to get through this book. But that was due to other distractions *ahem books ahem*. Once you start reading, you can't stop. Not just because of the cliffhangers they leave you on, but because I feel the writing itself is addictive. It would seem the same sarcastic and humorous tone would get boring, but after being a Rick Riordan fan for this long, it is comforting.

Recommendation

At first I wasn't sure if this book would live up to my expectations based on the first two books, but now it's clear all three are tremendous. This one especially gave me so many moments in my room laughing my head off, or crying at 1:30 on a school night. Not to mention how it cleared out my stash of blue book tabs. Either way, I mean to say that it is a great series and anyone looking for casual book recommendations should try this. It's easy to read and gives short term entertainment with long term memories.
