Hunger Games Series

This book was great and I am glad I read it. I was curious to find out if this book lived up to it's fame like the Harry Potter series (debatably) did. And I was pleasantly surprised while reading this, even if Katniss gets on my nerves sometimes. I think Suzanne Collins is very talented and imaginative for thinking of such a twisted and conceptual plot but while she described the dystopian world extremely well, I knew nothing of the main character herself. I feel like Collins made Katniss out to be very bland: long brown hair, plain views, basic lifestyle. She doesn't have any interests, hobbies, or strong emotions honestly. It feels like she is going through the motions with whatever she does, even in the arena. But I think the strategic mindset and cut-throat situation were portrayed well. As for character development, we see Katniss go outside of her comfort zone and even reach out to those she wouldn't previously have dared to speak to. Her instincts play a big role in not only the main plot of the games but also her fake relationship with another character. I heavily appreciated the creativity and overall intrinsic demeanour of the book.
Recommendation
I am recommending this book if you haven't already read it. It's a pretty basic read that kind of 'knights' you into the world of reading. The book is graceful and a little painful to read but it gives me a sense of purpose and belonging, which is confusing because the characters are living in a world that isn't ours. But I love this book and will continue to read the series!

I think Collins hit the ball out of the park with this book. I really enjoyed reading this book, especially since they were back in the arena with idfferent characters this time, and I'm glad that as a sequal it wasn't disappointing. One thing I don't love is the love triangle between Peeta, Katniss, and Gale. I stan both Everlark and Everthorne, but Katniss herself frustrates me a little. The fact that she doesn't set boundries and ends up playing with both guys' hearts makes me sad. And it's a little confusing that she herself doesn't know what she wants. It seems like throughout the book she rarely knows what she wants/what's going on which is unbelievable since she is the main character. However I won't get caught up with that little detail becasue the rest of the book was amazing. The plot thickens at every turn and Collins had me on the edge of my seat at every sing chapter because of her impecable timing and mastery of cliffhangers. And the character development of Peeta's love as well as the pressure of Snow's threats was SO FUN. This book was amazing, but it lost a star because sometimes Katniss got on my freakin' nerves.
Recommendation
Do I even need to recommend this book? It was so good, I think people will automatically read it without my say. But still, I will push you to read this book, even if you didn't like the first one. Because this is much better and it moves the story along well. The extension of the first book really made a difference and I can't wait to see what the finale is gonna be like. Read along with me to find out!

Noooooooo. Reviewing this book is so hard for me because I was such a big fan of Suzanne's. I was holding out on Katniss, waiting for her to be interesting or a good person but that NEVER happened. I had a whole rant session with my friends about her because she isn't a good main character. She messes up and hurts the people she cares about because she doesn't think about any consequences, and when everybody else cleans up her messes for her, she feels so guilty inside and pities herself. But instead of using her past mistakes to do better and help the cause (which is her main role), she makes the same mistakes repeatedly, just repeating the sad cycle. I hate her as a main character but I love most of the other characters so it balances out. Also, we are going to talk about how the fall of the Capitol was so anticlimactic. I am so upset that Katniss barely had a role in the fall; it felt like throughout the last two books her value was puffed up and it made it seem like nothing could happen without her. Even though she clearly didn't appreciate-or like- her role as the Mockingjay, I thought she would at least use it for good and encourage change. Either way, if you read this it's at your own risk.
Recommendation
Well I think this recommendation is a switch up from last book's. Not that I wouldn't recommend this book, but I'm warning you not to get your hopes up too high. Because I struggled reading this and then the end wasn't even satisfying in the slightest. So if you want to read this for the sake of finishing the series, that's fine but don't expect it to knock your boots off. I know I sound really bitter, but it is because the first two books were so good and then this book was really disappointing in a way that it never gave closure or a punch. I recommend you to live your truth and read this if you want. I did give it a 3/5.
