Divergent Series

I love this book. Aside from the intertwining plotline and tense romance, the style of writing is surprisingly delightful. Props to Veronica Roth for keeping me entertained for the entirety of the book. Seriously though, the way she writes is lifelike poetry. It's understandable but has dubious meanings at the same time. Additionally, she repeats important sentences to accentuate the effect, and although we are never left with cliffhangers at the end of chapters, they have a natural sense of finality to them. This book no joke raised my standards because I can't find much wrong with it. Everything is up to par, and it's essentially my dream book. It's safe to say that I will be deeply disappointed if the second book does not reach the same sky-high expectations.
Recommendation
I love this book with my heart and soul and will recommend this to everyone who comes in contact with me. I am not kidding when I say it has become my life's purpose to advertise this book to the public. It is dystopian and has TENSION which we all (mostly) love. Despite having low expectations, I was unnervingly surprised about the quality, even though many people believed it lacked basic foundation. I agree that the book didn't have a standard foundation, but I still think it turned out well. Even if the entire rest of the series goes downhill, I will be proud to say that I have read this. So take my word for it, and put this at the top of your TBR list!
Divergent

3/5★
This book was alright but not as good as Divergent. I think most of the book the only character development seen from Tris and Four is them fighting. I think the basis of the plot is forced, but the direction it takes is interesting. I think the end was anti-climactic because I was expecting something really big, but it ended up disappointing me because of the lack of creativity and active transformation. I am not trying to bash the book because the first book for sure was worth reading. That being said, this book didn't uphold the standard of the first, and it's inconsistency confused me. It questioned everything it had told us in the first book, which is both baffling and frustrating. Paired with the dull infuriating 'romance' and countless deaths, this book didn't give me many positive things to say.
Recommendation
If I am being honest, I would not recommend this book. I would recommend reading Divergent then stopping because this entire series goes to trash after that. The relationship loses interest very quickly, and nobody trusts each other after the second book, which is very surprising. If you just found out some life-altering information that could make or break so many peoples' lives, I would expect you to come together as a community. But I guess since this is a dystopian world that won't be happening. Overall, this book was very tedious, and I don't suggest reading it unless you have extreme patience, for which I envy you.
Insurgent

I hate hate hate this book. Usually I don't like bad mouthing books because I believe in giving them the benefit of the doubt. But this book failed me in every way. It led me into a reading slump. And although there are mixed reviews about this book, in my opinion, it ruined the series as a whole. Now I am a fan of Veronica Roth, and I loved Divergent, but let's just say this wasn't her best book. I never actually finished the book because I couldn't even get 50% of the way through. It was so dry and I already knew the plot twists at the end due to miscommunication with friends. And may I just say, the plot twists are a little horrifying. I mean plot should be enchanting, but not gut-wrenchingly saddening. If you read this book, read it at your own risk.
Recommendation
I do not recommend this book in any way. I don't know how to explain the sheer amount of force it took me to keep reading (even though I didn't finish) and get half way. At that point, my brain was not comprehending whose point of view I was reading from as it constantly switched. Don't get me wrong I love multiple POVs but Tris and Four are so alike it had my head spinning. I don't want to discourage you or be rude, but in my opinion, this book is not worth reading. It dampened my mood and shut me off from the reading world. I would rather read any cute stand-alone than these last two books. Good luck to you if you try to get through this.
