I think this was a great book and it taught a very powerful lesson. But it was a bit intense for my liking and got especially dark at times. The plot is very interesting and balances multiple themes, all of which correlate to racism and equality. I will say, the book was not what I expected, but not in a bad way. I think I was in a little over my head reading this because it was dark and sort of psychologically twisted in a way that scares me even now. But all other aspects of the book like character development and writing style amazed me. The character development is crazy because some characters are working up the courage to confront their loved ones while others have to choose either the truth or their mistakes. One of the main characters was being crushed under the overwhelming pressure of their own lies, while everyone else made it their goal to target the two main characters. I think it's really interesting that the author chose this angle and pointedly argued that no one in the world is safe because everyone is a part of the system. I am not sure how realistic this is, but I think in terms of the book the author did what she had to in order to get her important point across.

Recommendation

I would love to recommend this book to people. In fact, I read this book because the books I had on the top of my TBR were checked out and somebody recommended this to me. I recommended this book to someone who I thought fit the dark and intense vibe, but even if you generally drift towards cute romances or fantasies I think you would enjoy this book.
